Wests laud successful season
Nando Pijanker and the men’s Capital Premier football side were the major winners at Western Suburbs’ prizegiving on August 28.
Pijanker had a standout season with the club’s Central League team, while the Capital Premier side came agonisingly close to winning their league. They finished just two points shy of Waterside Karori as the two teams pulled away from the rest of the competition.
Jaga Scott-Greenfield was adjudged to be the team’s player of the year.
Other awards handed out on the night included Gaby Peach (player of the year for the Women’s Premier League side), Pete Elms (for the Masters 1 side), Greg Parish and Jenny Scott (male and female Golden Boot winners for the club), and Callum McCowatt and Owen Parker-Price (joint under-19 players of the year).
The departing Jonty Bilderbeck was given the players’ player award for Wests’ Central League team.
Women’s reserves’ player of the year was Paige Henry.
Club person of the year was jointly awarded to stalwarts Godfrey Bryce and Tony Vincent, while Ed Oosterwijk was awarded the club’s dedication of service prize.
