If elected, what will you do about the Johnsonville Mall development?

The Johnsonville Mall upgrade has lagged for years. Another upgrade is now well overdue. The mall redevelopment would reinvigorate Johnsonville. With Stride purchasing Queensgate this opens up the opportunity to get some momentum and synergies. The council should assist in any way possible.

If elected, what will you do about the Johnsonville Mall development?

As a frequent user of Johnsonville Mall I believe it is essential that the council maintains open communication with Stride. We have waited a long time for the mall redevelopment and this is a high priority of mine. I will work to ensure the community has a voice during any redevelopment.

New mall must include additional facilities such as cinema, co-working space, a covered bus interchange and most importantly, extensive park and ride.

If elected, what will you do about the Johnsonville Mall development?

The deferment in making this happen has negatively affected many businesses in the area. I think the Council could assist the mall owners to move forward with the project by contributing to the building of a car park building which would service both the shoppers and the local commuters. Plans for the Tawa Centre Upgrade need to be reviewed. Traffic flow, parking options need more consideration.

GRAEME SAWYER

Running as independent.

If elected, what will you do about the Johnsonville Mall development?

I have coordinated Stride, Wellington City Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council, New Zealand Rail and members of parliament to agree to a public-private partnership to create a 400-space carpark facility adjacent to Johnsonville train station for low-cost Park-and-Ride. I’ll seek to finalise that.

Running as independent.

If elected, what will you do about the Johnsonville Mall development?

In regard to the Johnsonville Mall redevelopment, Council is already working with Stride in an effort to see progress made. I want to ensure that an upgraded mall makes provision for increased parking, an improved bus interchange and, ideally, a cinema complex.
