Stories like today’s front page on the Mana Coastguard are why I enjoy being involved in community news.
It is lovely to hear about how Porirua has rallied around the coastguard and helped it get back to where it belongs - by the water.
Last week was Safer Boating Week and figures from Maritime New Zealand stated that on average about 23 boaties die each year.
The organisation said that people can help themselves by following three simple rules.
prepare your boat and make sure it’s safe.
check you have the right safety equipment and it’s working.
Prep your boat – Check your gear –
know the Boating Safety Code and what to do if something goes wrong.
Let’s all be safe on the water this year.
