Part­ners Porirua wins big

Part­ners Porirua was named the win­ner of this year’s Out­stand­ing Con­tri­bu­tion to the Com­mu­nity Award at the West­pac Porirua Busi­ness Awards on Novem­ber 18.

The award, which was spon­sored by Con­nect Global, had sev­eral en­tries from com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions all over Porirua and the fi­nal­ists were Part­ners Porirua, WhareOra Trust, which helps get Pasi­fika and Maori peo­ple into home own­er­ship, and Mana Cy­cle Group, which has had suc­cess in de­vel­op­ing on and off road cycling in the city.

Founded in 2000, Part­ners Porirua helps more than 1000 chil­dren, young peo­ple and their fam­i­lies through com­mu­nity based pro­grammes each year.

Key ac­tiv­i­ties fa­cil­i­tated in the last year in­clude the City and School Part­ner­ship Pro­gramme, the Com­mu­nity Driver Men­tor pro­gramme, the Porirua Youth 2 Work Move­ment, Porirua’s first JOBFest Fu­tures in Health, the Youth Ser­vice, Porirua Youth Awards and the Young Em­ployee Award.

In ac­cept­ing the award Michelle Robin­son said: ‘‘Porirua has a youth­ful pop­u­la­tion and our work is fo­cused on de­vel­op­ing young cit­i­zens who are in­de­pen­dent and pre­pared for the work­ing world, and able to con­trib­ute to the eco­nomic devel­op­ment of Porirua City’’.
