Partners Porirua wins big
Partners Porirua was named the winner of this year’s Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award at the Westpac Porirua Business Awards on November 18.
The award, which was sponsored by Connect Global, had several entries from community organisations all over Porirua and the finalists were Partners Porirua, WhareOra Trust, which helps get Pasifika and Maori people into home ownership, and Mana Cycle Group, which has had success in developing on and off road cycling in the city.
Founded in 2000, Partners Porirua helps more than 1000 children, young people and their families through community based programmes each year.
Key activities facilitated in the last year include the City and School Partnership Programme, the Community Driver Mentor programme, the Porirua Youth 2 Work Movement, Porirua’s first JOBFest Futures in Health, the Youth Service, Porirua Youth Awards and the Young Employee Award.
In accepting the award Michelle Robinson said: ‘‘Porirua has a youthful population and our work is focused on developing young citizens who are independent and prepared for the working world, and able to contribute to the economic development of Porirua City’’.
