School drain art project
A taniwha is now guarding one of the drains at Porirua School.
A group of junior school pupils designed the artwork as part of a project about what should go in the citys drains - only water.
Teacher Hannah Armstrong said now the children talk about the impact of rubbish going down the drain as they sit outside eating their lunch.
‘‘Only rain down the drain they chant,’’ she said.
Following the completion of the drain art, students attached labels to all the drains in Awarua Street.
Teacher Maz Homan said the school now plans to take more groups out to complete drain labelling in all the streets in Eldson.
