Over the summer break I sprained my thumb and was lamenting having to be in a cast for a few weeks in hot summer weather.

Amazingly I needn’t have worried - trying to keep it dry is more of an issue!

‘‘When is summer going to arrive?’’ is the question on everyone’s lips at the moment.

Most of us are back at work now having had only one or two days in the past month that resembled any type of summer.

It surprises me events, such as the Symphony at the Lagoon last week, went ahead given the unsettled weather on the long weekend. See photos, P48.

MetService is predicting that more settled weather for Waitangi weekend, meaning the Festival of the Elements on February 6 will be the place to be.
