Porirua charities are in for a sweet treat after Whittaker’s Chocolate donated more than 4,000 kilograms of dark chocolate to Kiwi Community Assistance [KCA] to distribute to those in need.

KCA assists numerous agencies throughout Wellington by providing food and household items to charities they work with.

In 2016 KCA fed 30,000 people and rescued over 100 tonnes of food.

In January KCA had distributed and rescued 6.6 tonnes of food to agencies such He Huarahi Tamariki, Pregnancy Help, Supergrans, Salvation Army, Taeaomanino Trust and Wesley Community Action.

Family Start are one of the organisations that work with KCA to feed and help families in need.

Van driver for He Huarahi Tamariki (A Chance for Children), Peter said that receiving yummy goodies from KCA benefits the teens in many ways as it helps give them energy for their studies.

‘‘When we feed them they have energy and the moment they get energy they put some serious work in and they really work’’

A spokeswoman from Supergrans said the clients she works with were moved to tears by the kindness of people who donated.

‘‘Some of our client’s would cry because of the box of fresh food they would receive.’’
