Loose tiles see pool in dry spell for next month
Loose tiles have taken the Cannons Creek Pool out of action for a month.
Porirua Council’s operating officer Tamsin Evans said the pool was refilled after its biannual maintenance at the end of January
When workers drained the pool to inspect the damage it was apparent more of the tiles were affected and the pool floor needed to be retiled, she said.
‘‘This had led to the need to retile the pool floor.’’
She believed the damage could have been caused during the November earthquakes but the tiles were kept in place because of the water pressure.
‘‘The tiles were 49 years old and not secured with a watertight grout and epoxy.
‘‘This technology was unavailable at the time the tiles were fitted.’’
