Ti­tahi Bay artist on show at Kapiti Coast gallery

Free­lance artist Daniel Reeve will be show­ing off his tal­ent in Kapiti for the next four weeks.

The Ti­tahi Bay artist is ex­hi­bi­tion­ing at the Kapiti Arts and Crafts So­ci­ety’s Kapiti Gallery.

His ca­reer has fol­lowed sev­eral paths, in­clud­ing fine art, com­mer­cial art, cal­lig­ra­phy, maps, movie props, ty­pog­ra­phy, graphic de­sign and pri­vate com­mis­sions.

He is known for the cal­lig­ra­phy and car­tog­ra­phy in The Lord of the Rings and The Hob­bit films but has also worked on other films plus their associated mer­chan­dise.

Il­lus­tra­tion, let­ter­ing and de­sign for ad­ver­tis­ing and other com­mer­cial ven­tures round out Reeve’s busy sched­ule.

His paint­ings are rep­re­sented in pri­vate col­lec­tions and in New Zealand’s Par­lia­ment and in the of­fices of the Wai­tangi Tri­bunal.

He has also been in­volved in cre­at­ing repli­cas of The Treaty of Wai­tangi, now on per­ma­nent dis­play in Te Papa, and repli­cas of the Malone doc­u­ments for the Great War Ex­hi­bi­tion.

He has taught sev­eral paint­ing and cal­lig­ra­phy work­shops and has tu­tored draw­ing, sketch­ing and paint­ing tours of New Zealand.

His ex­hi­bi­tion at the Kapiti Gallery closes on March 19.

He will be at the gallery on Fe­bru­ary 25 from 2pm, an­swer­ing ques­tions and demon­strat­ing cal­lig­ra­phy.

Kapiti Gallery is at 192 Matai Road, Rau­mati Beach, open Wed­nes­day to Sun­day.
