DANC­ING AT TE PAPA

A com­mu­nity dance cel­e­bra­tion will be held at Te Papa on Sun­day, April 30.

Pro­fes­sion­als will hold nine dance work­shops and there will be a per­for­mance by 16 Welling­ton com­mu­nity dance groups.

Ex­pe­ri­ence high-en­ergy Bhangra from the Pun­jab along­side a street dance hip hop bat­tle; In­done­sian group Caraka Seni per­forma tra­di­tional plate dance, then Full Swing bring us ‘‘The Big Ap­ple’’ a fast paced clas­sic Charleston; and we have a con­tem­po­rary Toke­lauan piece de­vel­oped for the Pa­cific Dance Chore­o­lab. Other cul­tures be­ing cel­e­brated are Chi­nese, Samoan, Is­raeli, African and Hawai­ian, plus per­form­ers of tap and mu­si­cal the­atre.

It’s the last day of the school hol­i­days and runs from 10.45am-4pm.
