‘‘My favourite part was getting a photo with the captains, that was pretty cool.’’

A young Cannons Creek netballer was at the heart of the action at an ANZ Premiership game on May 24, as she stood side by side with Pulse captain Katrina Grant and Steel captain Wendy Frew in front of a stadium of fans.

Macy Pau’u, 10, along with Kapiti netballer Amy Mitchell, 12, won the opportunity to meet the team captains and high five each of the players as they were called on to centre court at the start of the match, through the ANZ Future Captains compe- tition.

Macy, who attends Paremata School and has been playing for five years at the Norths Netball Club, was nervous before the game but excited to meet her heroes and watch them play.

‘‘My favourite part was get- ting a photo with the captains, that was pretty cool.

‘‘The players were really good at intercepting the ball and it was cool seeing how much hard work they put in,’’ she said.

ANZ Head of Sponsorship Susan McGregor said the bank was giving 94 children from around New Zealand the chance to meet their sporting heroes at each of the premiership games this season.

She hoped it would inspire them to achieve their dreams.

The match saw the Steel beat the Pulse 80-44.
