It’s election month.

One third of 18 to 24-year-olds – more than 2000 of them – are still not enrolled to vote in Mana.

Too many political parties with too many issues. Too boring trying to learn about them all.

One vote isn’t going to matter, and it’s not like the police are going to throw people in jail for skipping it.

Other people should be responsible for deciding public policy, the direction of the country, for the next few years.

It’s easy to trick yourself into thinking it’s okay to be lazy. Like you have nothing to lose.

But the truth is, you’ve already paid to support the system through the GST on your food, and the tax on your income.

So pick a topic you care about, and see which party is going to give you the best deal.

National election voting day is Saturday, September 23. Enrol at enrol.elections.org.nz Do it for yourself. - Senior Reporter Jared Nicoll
