Kapi Mana netball celebrates its 60th
The Kapi-Mana Netball Centre celebrated its 60th anniversary in style on Thursday night.
Attendees included Netball New Zealand chief executive officer Jennie Wyllie, Netball Central Zone CEO Carolyn Young, and Porirua City Council Deputy Mayor Izzy Ford.
Most of the 50-strong crowd then went to watch the Silver Ferns beat the England Roses 62-55 at Te Rauparaha Arena.
Kapi-Mana Netball Centre development manager Cathy Roa said ‘‘everyone was very excited’’ about the win, after catching up with old friends.
‘‘There were people there that haven’t seen each other for quite a long time, and the old ones that were there in the beginning, they’re in their 80s now, and they don’t get to see each other often.
‘‘They were certainly getting around and laughing with things [from the old days].’’
The Kapi-Mana Netball Centre can boast three Silver Ferns who started their netball at the centre: Sharon Burridge, Leilani Read and Whitney Souness.
