Cat burglars beware.

Porirua Police have called in backup and she’s not about to take anything lying down, after her nap that is.

Tia the tortie birman cat is the latest recruit to bolster the diverse ranks of Porirua’s officers.

Donning a police vest, she was brought in to help Senior Constable Kerry Morrell in the station’s Scene of Crime Office.

A video of the six-year-old lightly coloured, fluffy officer was posted to the Wellington District Police Facebook page, much to the delight of those on social media.

While her paperwork skills leave a lot to be desired, Morrell said she had a nose for sniffing out trouble.

‘‘She is a dog in a cat’s skin, and now I think she’s world famous in Porirua,’’ Morrell said.

Tia has big paws to fill, following the early retirement of another fourlegged fan favourite. Constable Elliot, the police guinea pig which died in August.
