Kapanui School’s room 13 visited Parkwood Retirement Village as part of the pen pal programme which has been operating between Kapanui and Parkwood for the past 18 months.

“They were lucky to strike Wednesday’s gloriously sunny afternoon and were able to visit the aviary and lagoon, where they fed the ducks, and explore the beautiful park-like tui dell with its waterfall and fountain,” Parkwood Trust administration manager Debbie Lutz said.

“Letters are exchanged between each child and pen pal resident once or twice a term, followed up with a visit to Parkwood where the children and residents have a chat and get to know one another.

“The exchange is mutually enjoyable and beneficial and provides a link between generations of age separation.”
