Blatant racism

Kapiti News - - Letters To The Editor -

In the Kapiti News issue June 27 the mayor announced that he was donating $1000 to the Malaysian High Commission in support of the new Malaysian government led by Prime Minister Pakatan Harapan. He (the mayor) decried the former government, stating it was corrupt, oppressive and used racial politics to divide communities.

The BBC World Service has a much-respected programme called Hard Talk and both on television and radio it broadcast an interview with Pakatan Harapan. Mr Harapan has been very open in his support for Palestine and the plight of Palestinians.

However, Mr Harapan went another step further towards the end of the talk said words to the effect that ‘despite six million Jews suffering genocide in the Holocaust, they bounced back because this hooked-nose race had an affinity with money’. He also finished by saying ‘all the suffering and problems of the Middle East started with the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948’. If that is not blatant racism I would like to know what is. And remember, this is the man that the Ka¯ piti mayor is holding up as the saviour of Malaysia. JONATHON HARRISON
