Victim needed 200 stitches
‘‘The victim had a 34cmwound from his back around to his abdomen.’’
A man needed 200 stitches after a vicious attack with what police believe to have been a craft knife – leaving a 34 centimetre cut from his back to his belly.
Police have launched a public appeal to help find the knife.
The attack took place at the intersection of Mazengarb Rd and Guildford Dr, in Paraparaumu, on the Kapiti Coast, about midnight on Saturday and left the 20-yearold victim with a huge cut to his side. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition for treatment.
A 32-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and police are not looking for anyone else.
Senior Sergeant Chanel Chapman said it appeared the two men were not known to each other.
The attack, with a box cutter or Stanley knife, left a substantial wound – ‘‘34cm from his back around to his abdomen’’, she said.
Police want anyone who may have found a knife in the immedi- ate area, including Te Atiawa Park, the Manly Street beachfront or the Paraparaumu golf course, to come forward.
They said it was likely to be a ‘‘craft or similar’’ knife.
Anyone with information on the attack should contact police or call anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
