New school to open in Kapiti
A Kapiti school is ready to move into a new era, but not without a nod to its heritage and the local community.
Our Lady of Kapiti School in Paraparaumu, is set to open for the new school year.
The state-integrated Catholic school, on the newly-formed Presentation Way off Milne Dr, opens on February 7. It takes the place of St Patrick’s School, which was on Tongariro St.
The school has been named after the Our Lady of Kapiti parish.
Principal Martin Elms said parts of the old school had been relocated to the new site, including two stained glass windows in the church hall and the hopscotch grid.
Elms said the parents of five families were involved in building the school through their local
‘‘We did a lot of research to ensure the school met current learning needs for children.’’
