New school to open in Kapiti

A Kapiti school is ready to move into a new era, but not with­out a nod to its her­itage and the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

Our Lady of Kapiti School in Para­pa­raumu, is set to open for the new school year.

The state-in­te­grated Catholic school, on the newly-formed Pre­sen­ta­tion Way off Milne Dr, opens on Fe­bru­ary 7. It takes the place of St Patrick’s School, which was on Ton­gariro St.

The school has been named af­ter the Our Lady of Kapiti par­ish.

Prin­ci­pal Martin Elms said parts of the old school had been re­lo­cated to the new site, in­clud­ing two stained glass win­dows in the church hall and the hop­scotch grid.

Elms said the par­ents of five fam­i­lies were in­volved in build­ing the school through their lo­cal

‘‘We did a lot of re­search to en­sure the school met cur­rent learn­ing needs for chil­dren.’’
