Caring for our soil and water
Kowhai trees are great for planting on stream edges. They help prevent soil erosion and keep the water clean. Kowhai trees grow wild all over New Zealand in sunny places on forest edges and alongside rivers and lakes in the North and South Islands. But there aren’t as many as there used to be. That’s why kids and parents all round the country are getting involved in planting projects like Project Gold in Otago and Greening Taupo - restoring Kowhai to their natural habitats.
