In­stead of food colour­ing you could try mak­ing a nat­u­ral dye out of boiled onion skins (or­ange/yel­low), pur­ple cab­bage (blue/pur­ple), beet­root, or spinach leaves. To make a dye out of pur­ple cab­bage or spinach, finely chop in a blender with a lit­tle bit of wa­ter, then drain through a seive. Beet­roots can be grated then put through the blender.
