Latitude Magazine

Letters

- Adrienne, Kirwee latitude Bev Lorimer, Tauranga

What a lifesaver my magazine was. I received it just before the COVID-19 Lockdown. Because some days one has been confined to indoors, I have been able to read it from cover to cover and I am now going to pass it onto my sister to read.

Your stories of the different people in the Canterbury region are most interesting. I didn’t know that Linden Leaves started in our area, or The Good Oil. I will certainly be keeping my eye out for The Good Oil, once we are out of isolation.

Your magazine gets better and better, so keep up the good work. I look forward to the next edition. My granddaughters for Christmas gave me a subscription for the next two years.

Last week I arrived back in NZ after spending a wonderful month with my daughter and partner and two-monthold grandson in London. I was one of the lucky many who rushed back and made it just before lockdown.

Jet lag is REALLY annoying but one of the silver linings last week meant I was awake early several mornings and sat in bed with a cup of coffee and caught up properly on the last three issues of latitude.

I came to the conclusion that the articles in your magazine are a perfect example of how resilient New Zealanders are. The stories of how people succeeded in spite of setbacks and adversity were humbling.

I grew up on a farm on the corner of Thompsons Track and the main Ashburton-Methven Road many years ago. The farmers then had either gone overseas during WWII or had farmed as it was an essential service, just like today. There was no choice but to work hard and provide for their families regardless of circumstances after the war.

After this coronavirus crisis is over, however long it takes, the economy and our people are going to have to adapt and meet challenges our country would never ever have contemplated.

I live in Tauranga now but love my annual latitude subscription. So, please keep printing the inspiring stories just like you have in the past, we are going to need them in the future.
