Anyone who says money can’t buy happiness has obviously never been to New York City. The metropolis, in particular the island borough of Manhattan, offers every opportunity to drop serious cash on unforgettable experiences. At Masa, a popular Japanese restaurant in the Time Warner Center, diners routinely spend US$600. Each! Nice sushi if you can get it.

For the rest of us, it is possible to enjoy an affordable holiday in Manhattan… you just need some street smarts, as the ‘Noo Yawkers’ like to say. First things first… the good news is airfares are the lowest they have been in years. Check out Skyscanner or Expedia for fares, and keep your eyes open for sale alerts. Some of the best deals come online in November and February.
