1876 Cairns founded

1882 Ku­randa first be­came at­trac­tive due to the huge amount of qual­ity tim­ber, like red cedar, hick­ory, maple and kauri pine. It was also a con­ve­nient stopover area for ac­cess to the min­ing sites west of the ranges

1886 Con­struc­tion started on the Rail­way to trans­port sup­plies to and from the min­ing ar­eas

1888 Thomas Be­han lodged the first sur­vey of the town of Ku­randa

1891 Af­ter 5 years of con­struc­tion the first work train steamed in to Ku­randa

1915 Ku­randa Rail­way Sta­tion built and nick­named “the hon­ey­moon sta­tion 1930’s Tourism be­gan as tourists ar­rived for a Sun­day out­ing 1940 Bar­ron Gorge Na­tional Park opened

1970 New set­tlers (hip­pies) move to Ku­randa for an al­ter­na­tive life­style

1973 Armed ban­dits rob the rail­way and get away with over $7,000 – they have never been caught

1987 Tjapukai Theatre opened in a base­ment in Ku­randa, mov­ing to Smith­fields in 1998 1995 The Skyrail opened 2014 New Ku­randa Visitors Cen­tre opened
