A IS FOR AMNIOCENTESIS

Little Treasures - - NEWBORN DAYS -

Early in your pregnancy you may feel a mix of excitement and concern that your baby is okay. If you are in a higher-risk group, your midwife might suggest this test. It’s a diagnostic test for Downs Syndrome and some other conditions, including spina bifida. A needle is inserted through the woman's abdomen into the uterus to collect a small amount of the amniotic fluid. It is usually carried out after the 15th week of pregnancy.
