The Women’s Lifestyle Expo on the weekend attracted a large crowd on the Saturday.

Sunday was a day for the “girlfriends without their kids” to browse the many stalls.

Also kept busy at the weekend Expo was the Ashhurst Fire Brigade, who donned 25kg of fire fighting kit and each walked up to 6km an hour.

Grant Marshall said they took onehour turns on the treadmill and raised $945 for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ.

Grant said the Rutherford Fitness Hire supported the walk and donated the treadmill for the firefighters’ weekend trek. “It was very hot. “The gear we wear is designed to keep heat out when in a fire but it also keeps the heat in so we lost a bit of sweat.

“We all consumed a good amount of water during the one hour walk,” Grant said.

The five volunteer crew, Grant, Josh Casey, Neil Foot, Anna Gordon and Tyrone Burnskey were supported by Maxine Burnskey, Laurie Marshall, Matt Clark, Hannah Barnes and Vanessa Davey.
