New chair ap­pointed for UCOL Coun­cil

Crown so­lic­i­tor Ben Van­derkolkis is the new chair of UCOL Coun­cil, ap­pointed by Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Chris Hip­kins. Ben, a strong ad­vo­cate for ed­u­ca­tion and the com­mu­nity, is well known for high pro­file court cases, and as an ar­bi­tra­tor and me­di­a­tor. He joined the UCOL Coun­cil in May 2013 and was ap­pointed deputy chair in 2014. For­mer Whanganui Mayor An­nette Main ONZM, was ap­pointed to fill the va­cancy cre­ated by for­mer chair Mal­colm Inglis, whose term was com­pleted. Regis­tra­tions close on June 11 and un­reg­is­tered waste will not be ac­cepted at the event. The coun­cil has teamed up for the one-off col­lec­tion with com­pany 3R who de­velop pro­grammes to re­cy­cle and re­spon­si­bly dis­pose of used prod­ucts and pack­ag­ing. 3R will be ac­cept­ing haz­ardous house­hold waste, au­to­mo­tive waste, gar­den chem­i­cals and pool chem­i­cals. A full list of what can and can­not be ac­cepted is avail­able on­line. blan­kets, cop­per foun­tains, vin­tage col­lectibles are a small count of the nu­mer­ous items that will be on sale.
