Search on for families to host international exchange students
Student Travel Services is looking for host families for three international students who will be arriving in Palmerston North in July.
Ferdinand from Gleisdorf in Austria has a big interest in sport and currently enjoys gymnastics, inline skating and handball. He is excited to try new sports in New Zealand and looking forward to skiing this winter.
Anna from Milano in Italy chose New Zealand for an exchange because she loves the thought of the wildness.
Anna is interested in living in a rural area as it is so different to what she is used to. She loves horse-riding and would like to be able to do that in New Zealand if possible. She is currently practising dressage once a week and helping in the stables.
Algot from Sweden enjoys the outdoors. He enjoys hiking and mountain climbing and driving boats in the summer and has just started learning how to windsurf. In the winter he enjoys downhill and crosscountry skiing. Technology is his passion and recently built a 3D printer which he uses to print models he’s designed on a computer software. Photography is his other interest.
Student Travel Services (STS) arranges international education and cultural exchanges for young people all around the world, which offers experienced-based learning that contributes to personal development and education.
Manawatu¯/Horowhenua STS area rep Tina Rush says these experiences help young people reach their full potential while having the time of their lives.
“Many people experience a new country by travelling, others choose to be host parents or host siblings to an exchange student.
“An exchange year is an adventure that influences your outlook on daily life and possibly the world at large.
“Taking that step, sharing your family life and getting to know a family in another country all in one go, that is certainly a way of expanding your horizon.”
Tina said the students are excited to learn about New Zealand and the Kiwi culture while sharing their culture and country with their host families..
Hosting an exchange student involves providing a bed and quiet place to study, three meals a day and most importantly a warm family environment where they can feel a part of your family.
