ASEAN youth con­fer­ence

Palmer­ston North Girls’ High School is the host school at the sec­ond ASEANNZ youth con­fer­ence (ANZYC). ANZYC is an ini­tia­tive to fa­mil­iarise NZ se­condary school stu­dents with the South­east Asian Re­gion and is a project part­ner­ship with the ASEAN com­mit­tee in Welling­ton — the em­bassies and high com­mis­sions of South­east Asian na­tions (ASEAN) coun­tries in Welling­ton, In­done­sia, Malaysia, Philip­pines, Sin­ga­pore, Thai­land and Viet­nam. Se­condary stu­dents from the Manawatu¯ -Whanganui and Welling­ton re­gions will at­tend with talks from the ACW and the NZ Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs and Trade (MFAT), Asia Foun­da­tion and the South­east Asian Cen­tre for Asia-Pa­cific Ex­cel­lence. The talks fo­cus on NZ’s re­la­tions with the re­gion, and how stu­dents can help fur­ther ties and pur­sue later stud­ies and ca­reers in re­la­tion to ASEAN and diplo­macy. There will also be a work­shop on how NZ stu­dents and schools can tie up with ASEAN coun­ter­parts. A lunch fea­tur­ing ASEAN dishes will be served.The one-day event is on Oc­to­ber 8 at PNGHS from 9am-4pm.
