ASEAN youth conference
Palmerston North Girls’ High School is the host school at the second ASEANNZ youth conference (ANZYC). ANZYC is an initiative to familiarise NZ secondary school students with the Southeast Asian Region and is a project partnership with the ASEAN committee in Wellington — the embassies and high commissions of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN) countries in Wellington, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Secondary students from the Manawatu¯ -Whanganui and Wellington regions will attend with talks from the ACW and the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), Asia Foundation and the Southeast Asian Centre for Asia-Pacific Excellence. The talks focus on NZ’s relations with the region, and how students can help further ties and pursue later studies and careers in relation to ASEAN and diplomacy. There will also be a workshop on how NZ students and schools can tie up with ASEAN counterparts. A lunch featuring ASEAN dishes will be served.The one-day event is on October 8 at PNGHS from 9am-4pm.
