Plenty on for kids during holidays
If you’re looking for something for the kids over the school holidays, there are plenty of fun activities to keep them entertained. This week also marks the start of this year’s Fringe Festival, with a wide range of shows for all interests and ages. ■ The Palmerston North City Library has an array of fun workshops and activities over the school holiday period. There will be Ailene’s Craft sessions running through the week, Go Ballistic: Mini Crossbows and Catapults sessions, for those who want to get busy building, to a Teddy Bear Sleepover on Friday, October 5 from 4pm-6pm. ■ Massey Kids’ Club is back for the school holidays with two weeks of activities including sports, dancing and crafts for kids aged 5 to 13 years old. Check out their website for the programme of events starting from 8am each day until 5.30pm.
■ Join The Red Walk on Sunday, September 30 from 9am for their 5km or 10km fun run to raise money and awareness for Cure Kids, here in Manawatu¯ . The walk and run both start and finish at the Hardie St Reserve, following along the Bridal Track next to the beautiful Manawatu¯ River. There will be face painting, a bouncy castle, barbecue, cold drinks, coffee tent, raffles and spot prizes.
■ Enjoy a vintage high tea experience with friends at Distinction Hotel for the Lord of the Manor High Tea on Sunday, September 30 from 1.30pm.
■ Experience two hours of non-stop action-packed entertainment at the Manawatu¯ Tattoo, featuring Craig Adams, Suzanne Prentice, Foundation NZ Youth Pipe Band and more on Sunday, September 30 from 2pm at Manfeild. ■ The Cat in the Hat is a much-loved children’s literature classic and now a zany, imaginative play which is coming to Palmerston North for some school holiday fun on Thursday, October 4 at the Regent on Broadway. Purchase your tickets now at www.ticketdirect.co.nz.
■ Manawatu¯ Vintage Car Club Swap Meet and Car Show is back for another year on Saturday, October 6 from 7am3pm at Manfeild. Take the family along to check out the impressive motors on show. ■ The Palmy Fringe Festival is here from October 6-13 with many amazing shows to choose from, across a variety of venues. Find out what you want to see with a taster of some of the best of the fest at the Pick of The Fringe at The Royal on Saturday, October 6 and Friday, October 12 from 5.30pm. * The headline act of the festival, Allergic to Love: Curse of the 80s, an award winning, internationally acclaimed NZ original, 80s rock opera at Centrepoint Theatre on Friday, October 12 from 7pm and Saturday, October 13 from 7.30pm.
* A guy, a girl and a lawnmower which uses aerial dance, circus skills and storytelling to unravel the story of a loving couple whose relationship has gone badly wrong. Catch it at the Regent on Broadway on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 from 6pm.
* Funny Business starring Fraser Hooper guarantees giggles galore and has been delighting audiences worldwide. Bring along the family on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 from 11am at the Globe Theatre.
■ Kelly Rowe School of Riding are offering an exciting 3-hour farm visit at Manley Lodge on Saturday and Sunday, October 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 10am. Join them for the chance to have real hands-on experience with ponies and farm animals, with pony rides, as well as feeding and handling the other farm animals too.
■ Start your Christmas shopping early at the Feilding Craft Market, NZ’s largest indoor Craft Market, on Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 from 9am-5pm at Manfeild. With Christmas tree decorations by artists, carol singers and Santa’s workshop, it’s guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit.
■ Get along to Feilding’s Rural Day on Friday, October 12 from 9am, set in the centre of town at Manchester Square. Celebrate all things rural with farm animals on show and plenty of fun activities for all the family.
■ Grab your friends and family and dust off those dancing shoes for the Latino Fiesta exploding into Te Manawa car park on Saturday, October 13 from 12pm for the best in live Latin music, food, dance, crafts, face painting and Pin˜ ata breaking. This is a party you do not want to miss!
■ Get on your bike for the Feilding Festival of Cycling on Saturday, October 13 at 2pm. Take part on this cycling challenge for all abilities, with four rides to choose from. There will be three recreational rides with great spot prizes and a classic cycle NZ race for licensed riders with cash prizes.
