Pupils dig in for environment

A 12-year-old Taonui School project has been revived as senior students replanted native bush along the banks of Taonui Stream. The conservation effort was undertaken by 50 pupils from rooms three and four, who dug in to plant 30 toi toi and hebe plants supplied by Horizons Regional Council. The idea of the planting began when Taonui principal Mark Mccallum saw an old sign beside the stream with the school’s logo on it. He contacted Horizons and found the school had shelved a project to improve the area around the stream many years back.

Major passion for mini-bikes

Feilding High School’s engineering students are fuelled up and ready to race their personally made mini-bikes against fellow students from around the country. Year 13 students will race their water-cooled 70cc mini-bikes or the 110cc sidecars on the front track at the Manfeild race circuit.
