Charges follow deaths

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 59-year-old woman in rural West Auckland. Police were called to a house in Oratia, just after midnight yesterday morning. A 27-year-old man was arrested and a spokesperson said police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the death. The accused man appeared at the Waita¯ kere District Court yesterday where he was granted interim name suppression and is due to appear on February 27. A neighbour said a mother and son lived at the address. Meanwhile, a man has been arrested in relation to the death of a 30-year-old man in Hastings. Emergency services were called about 2.35am yesterday to a critically-injured man but he died at the scene. A 42-year-old man was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was to appear in court today.
