Let’s all celebrate spring

Winter is officially gone and spring is here.

Here’s our pick of five of the best ways to celebrate the arrival of spring.

1. Furiously debate when spring actually is

It’s a debate that happens every year and everybody has at least one friend to incite at barbecues. In New Zealand we celebrate the start of spring on September 1 but many countries go with the spring equinox.

2. Eat tender, juicy barbecued spring lamb

Auckland has a plethora of stunning spots to cook-up-a-storm that aren’t yet crowds.

3. Daffodils

Cornwall Park has a fragrant boulevard of daffodils sprouting. There’s also plenty of other places to find these cheerful flowers.

4. Fresh Asparagus

Asparagus fans are so cruelly treated by winter either succumbing to limp, pale canned asparagus or dreadfully priced imported ‘fresh’ asparagus.

5. Breaking out the shorts and jandals

We Kiwis boast a cheerful denial about living in a temperate country, so why not slap on the jandals and shorts months shy of Auckland’s summer proper? besieged by summer

Spring lambs shouldn’t be too far away.
