The area borders State Highway 1 and The Gardens - a National party stronghold in South Auckland.
Two voting locations around Hillpark bucked the overall electorate trend.
Nearly half of the 1375 valid party votes cast at Hillpark School went to National. Labour could only manage 26.25 per cent. Nearby Manurewa Central School only marginally went to Labour by 17 votes, out of the 420 valid party votes cast overall. Interestingly, the sole polling booth in Weymouth only had a 32 vote majority to Labour. In the southern part of the electorate, 868 valid votes were cast overall: 357 went to Labour versus 325 votes to National. It was one of the highest votes for New Zealand First in Manurewa.
It managed 161 votes, the same number at Everglade Primary further north.
