Fire and Emergency New Zealand is working in conjunction with BunningsWarehouse Botany to remind Aucklanders that it’s time to check their smoke alarms, to coincide with the upcoming start of the Daylight Saving period. Peter Gallagher, the national advisor fire risk management for Fire and Emergency NZ, says that ‘‘working smoke alarms are your best chance of survival in the event of a fire’’. Bunnings Warehouse Botany is running free DIY workshops informing people how to select and install a smoke alarm. They are on Saturday and Sundays, September 23, and 24, from 12.30pm, at the store at 320 Ti Rakau Drive, in Burswood.
