‘Lots’ of entry level jobs

More than 100 companies representing several industries in New Zealand headed down to Manukau to recruit new employees.

The NZMA Careers Expo saw employers from hotel chains, restaurants, trades, early childhood education, health, retail and contact centres.

‘‘Most [employers] were from the hospitality industry as they know the students they find here have the skills they are looking for,’’ Gareth Brown, NZMA national careers and employment manager, says.

The NZMA Careers team said most of the job seekers were looking for opportunities across all indus- tries, namely hospitality, construction, retail, health and education.

But, is it easy to get a job in Auckland, especially if you’re just starting out?

‘‘Definitely, [there are] lots of opportunities, as our students are work-ready, confident and skilled,’’ Brown says.

A regular at the annual expo, Accor Hotels is looking for guest service agents, maintenance technicians and room attendants.

Talent and culture coordinator, Kayla Ludlow says they are ‘‘keeping an eye out for anyone who we think might be good, even if we don’t have a specific position in mind’’.

‘‘We can pass student details to hotels within our group.’’
