Drys­dale and fel­low Kiwi Rob­bie Man­son were both en­tered in the men’s sin­gle sculls class at Linz, with Man­son hav­ing the fastest qual­i­fy­ing time in the heats on Fri­day, which were run in a time trial for­mat.

The NZ duo are bat­tling for se­lec­tion in the sin­gle scull for this year’s world cham­pi­onships to be held in Bul­garia in Septem­ber.

Rowing NZ made the rare move of select­ing two top-class com­peti­tors in the same class for two World Cup events – the sec­ond in Switzer­land next month – with the best-per­formed ath­lete get­ting the nod for the sole spot for the world champs.

Man­son had the up­per hand over the NZ summer re­gat­tas as Drys­dale con­tin­ues to strug­gle to find his best form fol­low­ing a long lay­off af­ter he won his sec­ond suc­ces­sive Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
