Supporters: Alice Mills of French Essence Cafe serves coffee for Joy Suttie, left, Shirley Nicholas, Peter Nicholas and Alison Weaver during the Pink Ribbon brunch hosted by the cafe on Saturday morning. Cafe owner Dave Anderson says the event, held on the last day of Pink Ribbon month, had some good support, raising just over $1200. The first two customers of the day donated $100 each to the cause. Anyone coming along made a donation and enjoyed a two course breakfast, with all the proceeds going towards breast cancer research and medical grants in New Zealand. ‘‘This was the first one we have hosted and we are really happy with how it went. We were aiming for $1000, so we are very pleased. Both my family and [my wife] Sarah’s families have been touched by cancer. Also we have a new baby daughter so this is also our way of helping the future generation of women,’’ he says. Photo: SVEN HERSELMAN
