Milk of human kindness
These school children are certainly full of the milk of human kindness, but that’s nothing to fear.
A well-timed photograph at Whitney Street School, in Blenheim, of pupils sipping their milk cartons has won them a year’s supply of milk.
Teacher Lisa Lissaman snapped the photo and sent it to global dairy company Fonterra to celebrate World Milk Day ... and won.
The kind-hearted children have opted to donate their win to three Blenheim kindergartens and play centres.
Lisa says the children had wanted to give the milk vouchers they received to other children in the community.
Youngsters at Blenheim Playcentre were the first lucky recipients. It was all smiles as kindergarten children were treated to songs from Whitney Street School pupils on Friday as the vouchers were handed over.
Pupil Liam Chandler from the school’s Team Tipu Tonu explained how the school had won the vouchers before Jack Davies handed over the vouchers to George Seal.
Lisa says the competition had given the children a chance to learn about helping others.
‘‘We spent some time with the children investigating who they would like to donate to and who we thought would benefit,’’ she says.
