Garden tour ventures further afield

Marlborough Midweek - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS - PAULA HULBURT

A popular garden tour is venturing further afield this year as it looks to raise vital funds for a Marlborough church.

The Beyond Town Garden Tour will take place in the Rapaura, Grovetown and Rarangi areas, outside Blenheim, as organisers look to give their weekend event a more rural flavour.

The St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church garden tour committee has been working hard for months in preparation for the event this Friday and Saturday.

Co-organiser Gillian Mutch says many of the gardens in this year’s self-directed tour have opened especially for the tour.

‘‘The focus is out of town this year and there are a range of beautiful gardens to see ... Owners have kindly agreed to share their loved gardens to help raise funds for St Andrew’s church and we are very grateful.

‘‘It should be a wonderful tour,’’ she says.

Nine gardens feature in the tour, ranging from cottage-style to seaside gardens and orchards. Some garden hosts also offer refreshments on the way round and a craft and book stall, Gillian says.

Devon Nursery, on Old Renwick Rd, will host a hanging basket event to teach visitors how to make one for themselves.

Tickets are $15 each and can be bought at Roselands, Selmes Trust and Devon Garden centres, Cresswell’s Shoes and at the St Andrew’s church office.

The tour begins at 10am and finishes at 4pm.
