A minia­ture foal born af­ter his fright­ened fa­ther, Rocket, es­caped dur­ing a huge earth­quake has been named Jolt.

The tiny colt was born at Withaview Minia­ture Horse Stud in Koromiko, north of Blen­heim, last month. Staff at the Vet Cen­tre, in Blen­heim, who helped care for the tiny new ar­rival were run­ning a com­pe­ti­tion to name the colt. Jolt’s owner An­gela Smith chose the name out of al­most 100 sug­ges­tions.
