Marlborough Cricket all set for summer
The grass is mown, wickets are being rolled and even the sun is coming out as we look forward to the start of another cricket season. It’s not too late to register either and there is a grade or programme for every age and ability as we explain below.
The Superstar Cricket Academy programme is for our youngest players learning the game, typically 5 to 8 year olds. Marlborough Cricket runs academy centres at Horton Park in Blenheim on Monday evenings, Endeavour Park Picton on Tuesdays and Renwick School on Wednesday evenings – just choose the centre that suits you best.
To register either click on the large blue Superstar Academy link from the home page of our website, www.marlboroughcricket.co.nz or email email@example.com with your details and we will take care of the rest. All centres start in the first week in November so register this month if you are keen to take part.
For 8-10 year olds Superstar Kiwi Cricket is the best option and this summer games will be played on Friday evenings at Lansdowne Park from 4pm to 5.15pm starting from the first Friday in November. Teams are

six a side and play with a softer ball so there is no need for any safety equipment such as pads, gloves or helmets.
The next stage after Kiwi is WKhardball cricket, either Friday evening for fifth grade (generally years 5 and 6) or Saturday morning fourth grade (generally years 7 and 8). For secondary school students Saturday afternoon third grade is the option and players graduate from here to second grade and eventually senior grade teams.
Teams in all grades above the Superstar Academy programmes are organised by our clubs and players need to register, again via the MCAwebsite, using the ‘‘Registrations’’ tab and then select the club that they wish to play for.
Alternatively, contact Marlborough Cricket Development by email or phone the office on 03 577 9050 and we will pass on your details to the appropriate club.
Women’s cricket is a big focus this year for Marlborough Cricket and we hope to organise girls’ only teams at both the Superstar Academy and Kiwi Cricket grades if we can get sufficient numbers interested. We will also be running a six a side women’s midweek competition, which has already generated plenty of interest. If you are interested in playing or entering a team contact Artha, MCAdevelopment manager, at the MCAoffice or via the development email address.
Best of luck to everyone playing this season and remember to get your registrations in as soon as possible so that we can organise you in to a team.
Even if you played last season you still need to register again for this season so visit the MCA website for more information or give us a call on 03 577 9050.
