Squad goals for new age group teams
The Marlborough Cricket Development team are currently busy selecting new age group representative squads led by Coaching and Development Manager Prabodha Arthavidu (Artha).
Club coaches have nominated players for these squads but players are also welcome to put themselves forward for any of the age group sides. For the Primary School rep side you need to be in year 8 or below, for under 15s and under 17s you must be under that age on September 1.
Anyone interested in trialling or finding out more should contact Artha either by email, email@example.com, or phone on 021 704 776.
This week’s Blenheim New World Junior player of the week award goes to Carter Aitken of Wairau Blue 4th grade.
Carter continued his good run of form this year with 41 not out and 2 wickets for 8 runs to help his side to a win over Celtic.
Team coaches are reminded to send match reports and player of the day nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org by 9am Monday morning.
In Tasman Premier League action last weekend both Marlborough club sides had convincing wins over Nelson opposition. At Endeavour Park, previously unbeaten WTTU struggled batting first, all out for 102 from 38 overs.
Best of the Dolphins bowlers were Jerrym Lamb with 3 for 6 from 8 overs and Josh Poole with 3 for 4 from 5 overs.
In reply, opener Blair Timms made an unbeaten 37 from 39 balls and Josh Poole 26 from 16 to ensure a comfortable 8 wicket bonus point win.
The Marlborough Labour Hire Falcons had an even more convincing win over Wakatu bowling their opponents out for only 86 after they had chosen to bat first.
Alex Kennedy picked up 4 wickets supported well by Greg Stretch and Sam Boyce with three a piece.
In reply the Falcons raced to victory for the loss of only one wicket, Andrew McCaa ending unbeaten on 50.
This weekend the Falcons entertain Stoke Nayland, the only unbeaten side in the competition, in a crunch game at Horton Park while the Dolphins travel to Brightwater to take on struggling Wanderers.
On Sunday the Marlborough Senior rep team challenge Nelson for the Newman Shield in good heart following their Hawke Cup win over Nelson in January and a good showing in the Zone final against Canterbury Country.
Nelson were however comfortable winners in the November Newman Shield clash between the two teams chasing down 133 for a 6 wicket win to earn the right to host the March defence. The match is at Nelson’s Saxton Oval starting at 11am and is 50 overs per side.
