Squad goals for new age group teams

The Marl­bor­ough Cricket De­vel­op­ment team are cur­rently busy se­lect­ing new age group rep­re­sen­ta­tive squads led by Coach­ing and De­vel­op­ment Man­ager Pra­bodha Arthavidu (Artha).

Club coaches have nom­i­nated play­ers for these squads but play­ers are also wel­come to put them­selves for­ward for any of the age group sides. For the Pri­mary School rep side you need to be in year 8 or be­low, for un­der 15s and un­der 17s you must be un­der that age on Septem­ber 1.

This week’s Blen­heim New World Ju­nior player of the week award goes to Carter Aitken of Wairau Blue 4th grade.

Carter con­tin­ued his good run of form this year with 41 not out and 2 wick­ets for 8 runs to help his side to a win over Celtic.

In Tas­man Premier League ac­tion last week­end both Marl­bor­ough club sides had con­vinc­ing wins over Nel­son op­po­si­tion. At En­deav­our Park, pre­vi­ously un­beaten WTTU strug­gled bat­ting first, all out for 102 from 38 overs.

Best of the Dol­phins bowlers were Jer­rym Lamb with 3 for 6 from 8 overs and Josh Poole with 3 for 4 from 5 overs.

In re­ply, opener Blair Timms made an un­beaten 37 from 39 balls and Josh Poole 26 from 16 to en­sure a com­fort­able 8 wicket bonus point win.

The Marl­bor­ough Labour Hire Fal­cons had an even more con­vinc­ing win over Wakatu bowl­ing their op­po­nents out for only 86 af­ter they had cho­sen to bat first.

Alex Kennedy picked up 4 wick­ets sup­ported well by Greg Stretch and Sam Boyce with three a piece.

In re­ply the Fal­cons raced to vic­tory for the loss of only one wicket, An­drew McCaa end­ing un­beaten on 50.

This week­end the Fal­cons en­ter­tain Stoke Nay­land, the only un­beaten side in the com­pe­ti­tion, in a crunch game at Hor­ton Park while the Dol­phins travel to Bright­wa­ter to take on strug­gling Wan­der­ers.

On Sun­day the Marl­bor­ough Se­nior rep team chal­lenge Nel­son for the New­man Shield in good heart fol­low­ing their Hawke Cup win over Nel­son in Jan­uary and a good show­ing in the Zone fi­nal against Can­ter­bury Coun­try.

Nel­son were how­ever com­fort­able win­ners in the Novem­ber New­man Shield clash be­tween the two teams chas­ing down 133 for a 6 wicket win to earn the right to host the March de­fence. The match is at Nel­son’s Sax­ton Oval start­ing at 11am and is 50 overs per side.
