Sports award nominees impressive
This week the Chronicle individuals nominated Matamata Sports Awards.
The rest of the profiles will appear in the pages of the Chronicle on Wednesday November 24. Matamata
profiles and teams for the Metso Piako District played 21 games in the season, winning all but four, with a 660 for and 237 against record.
– The Matamata Swifts’ first team gained two promotions this year to finish the 2010 season in division 1 of the Northern Region Football League. This is the second highest league for winter football in New Zealand and consists of teams from Whangarei down to Auckland, Waikato and Tauranga.
– Winners of the Waikato Premiere Grade Men’s Interclub Tennis Championship. The team completed the round robin competition undefeated and went on to beat Hamilton in the finals 4-2 – an outstanding achievement for this small rural club. ation annual meeting. The club has a well developed strategic plan with a vision to be the ‘‘beating heart of the community’’. They cater for junior, youth and senior football players with success at all levels – the most notable being the promotion of their Men’s First team to division 1 of the Northern Region Football League.
This year Pitcon has umpired at the New Zealand Under 17s and New Zealand Secondary Schools tournaments as well as Super 12 and her Thames Valley league.
She provides mentoring and coaching of other umpires at her club and at Waikato level.

Rogers is a nationally qualified referee, starter and inspector of turns. He was selected to officiate as a starter at National Age Group championships and an inspector of turns at National Open Championships and National Short Course Age Group champs. Organiser of the Matamata Junior Touch module, Johnson is responsible for co-ordinating entries and draws and training the college students who referee the games. She is the comanager of the Waikato Under 21 boys and coach of the Matamata College mixed team.
