Chips fly as sculptors begin magic creations
Thirteen sculptors from around the Waikato/Bay of Plenty are taking part in the Matamata Sculpture Symposium which got under way on Monday. Pieces will be worked on between 8am and 8pm each day and most will be available for sale at the auction on February 12. A new initiative this year is the people’s choice award. From day three people can vote for their favourite sculptor or sculpture.
Organisers said that for safety visitors to the symposium should stay away from the power tools, be aware of cords and flying stone chips and never tap a sculptor on the shoulder.
