SADIE Swap can count how many times she hasn’t at­tended Mata­mata’s premier horse rac­ing event, the Mata­mata Breed­ers’ Stakes.

Go­ing along to the Breed­ers’ Stakes since it be­gan in 1969, is some­thing that she and her late hus­band Joe would al­ways look for­ward to.

‘‘Joe and I used to go to races all the time,’’ Mrs Swap said.

‘‘It was what peo­ple in Mata­mata used to do.’’

For the sec­ond year J Swap Con­trac­tors Ltd is the pri­mary spon­sor of the Mata­mata Breed­ers’ Stakes.

The part­ner­ship be­tween J Swap Con­trac­tors and Rac­ing Mata­mata goes back many years.

Mrs Swap said she loved go­ing to the races for a num­ber of rea­sons.

‘‘It’s good to watch a bit of horse rac­ing and some of the fash­ion events,’’ she said.

But the best thing about go­ing to the races, Mrs Swap said, was catch­ing up with peo­ple she had not seen for a while.

‘‘I al­ways en­joy see­ing peo­ple I know at the Breed­ers’ Stakes. It’s a great time to sit down, have a few drinks and a good chat.,’’ she said. Mrs Swap will be at Mata­mata Race­course for the Breed­ers’ Stakes this Satur­day Fe­bru­ary 26 with a num­ber of
