Animal welfare now a major selling point

Matamata Chronicle - - Rural Delivery -

At the Federated Farmers annual Dairy Council meeting, New Zealand Veterinary Association president Dr Richard Wild discussed an issue close to both groups’ hearts – their animals.

‘‘ The wellbeing of our animals has always been a priority,’’ Federated Farmers Dairy Council chairman Lachlan McKenzie said.

‘‘Dr Wild raised some great issues and furthered the debate on animal welfare.

‘‘We agree with Dr Wild that animal welfare is now a part of management best practice and go a step further.

‘‘We see it not just as a moral issue but it also good business sense.

‘‘The public votes with their feet and animal neglect, obviously, doesn’t sell,’’

Mr McKenzie said.
