Use it so you don’t lose it
If you are an older person and would like to improve your health and fitness levels Sport Waikato’s weekly Upright and Active programme is a great place to start.
The programme aims to decrease the incidence of falls in older adults by improving strength and balance through simple exercises.
Group facilitator Patricia James said new members were always welcome.
‘‘The purpose of the group is to get people within the community who wouldn’t normally be very active up and moving,’’ she said. ‘‘We’d like to invite those who are on their own, don’t go to a gym and whose activity levels are dropping off to come along to an encouraging and safe environment for some gentle exercise.’’
Every Wednesday the group meets in the Tainui room at the Matamata Memorial Centre between 11 and 12, for a warm up, marching, stretching, games and activities and a warm down to music.
