Mata­mata teenager Oliver Wright could be winging his way to Fukuoka, Ja­pan next month pend­ing squad se­lec­tion for the for the Sanix Cup In­ter­na­tional Youth Soc­cer Tour­na­ment.

New Zealand Foot­ball has ac­cepted an in­vi­ta­tion to the tour­na­ment and two games in AS­PIRE Academy in Doha, Qatar, as prepa­ra­tion for the FIFA U17 World Cup which is be­ing held in Mex­ico in June.

As a mem­ber of the ex­tended New Zealand Foot­ball U17 Squad, Wright could be se­lected to play in this in­ter­na­tional fix­ture.

The se­lected 21 play­ers will as­sem­ble in Auck­land on Tues­day, March 15 prior to de­par­ture to Ja­pan.

The Sanix Cup tour­na­ment runs from March 18 to 22.

The squad will then travel di­rect from Fukuoka to Doha to play two matches on March 27 and 30.

A big ath­letic cen­tre back, Wright has made his way through the Waikato Bay of Plenty Foot­ball de­vel­op­ment pro­grammes and has been play­ing foot­ball for Hamil­ton Boys’ High School. This year he has moved to Auck­land for his year 13 ed­u­ca­tion at Sa­cred Heart Col­lege, where he will be coached by for­mer All White Danny Hay.
