Walk pro­gramme shows his­tory and stun­ning scenery

Ex­pe­ri­ence the fan­tas­tic walks of Coro­man­del and the Kaimai Ranges. From April 16 to 30, ex­plore these amaz­ing ar­eas with a pro­gramme of 26 guided walks that show­case his­tor­i­cal gold min­ing trails, stun­ning scenery and flora and fauna.

Here’s some ex­am­ples of our lo­cal walks;

In­tro­duce your­self to the won­der of the Waironga­mai Val­ley and en­joy a unique kids’ gold rush on this leisurely stroll through his­tory.

Re­mains of the tramway and gold min­ing ma­chin­ery lend a sense of magic to this day out which ends with an op­tional pic­nic and swim.

Spec­tac­u­lar wa­ter­falls and views from the Kaimai ridge await trav­ellers on this his­toric walk­ing track near Te Aroha.

Tackle the 152-me­tre climb to the top of the Wairere Falls, a tra­di­tional route dat­ing back to pre-Euro­pean times, and re­turn via a gen­tler loop walk through bush and farm­land.

The breath­tak­ing views of Great Bar­rier Is­land, across the Hau­raki Gulf and out to the Pa­cific Ocean. This gem of a walk in­tro­duces you to the beauty and soli­tude of the Coro­man­del.

As part of a Gov­ern­ment ini­tia­tive to get Kiwi kids play­ing more sport and be­ing more ac­tive af­ter school, Ki­wiS­port pro­grammes will be run­ning from 3.30 to 4.30pm in the fol­low­ing towns.

Any­one is wel­come to at­tend if they fit the age group guide­lines (which vary from pro­gramme to pro­gramme) and most are free or a gold coin do­na­tion. Fe­bru­ary 14 to March 7 Te Aroha – Mon­day touch and Thurs­day vol­ley­ball;

Mor­rinsville – Tues­day foot­ball and Thurs­day golf; Mata­mata – Fri­day foot­ball March 21 – April 15 Te Aroha – Mon­day bas­ket­ball and Thurs­day league;

Mor­rinsville – Tues­day vol­ley­ball and Thurs­day touch;

Mata­mata – Tues­day touch and Fri­day vol­ley­ball.
