Swim­mers top at Cam­bridge

Mata­mata In­ter­me­di­ate swim­mers headed to Cam­bridge with togs and gog­gles in hand to com­pete at the Waikato In­ter­In­ter­me­di­ate Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships on Fe­bru­ary 28.

Over­all the team of 21 walked away with first place af­ter a smash­ing re­lay race by both the girls’ and boys’ teams.

The boys’ 6x50m re­lay won with a lead of 25-30 me­tres and the girls’ 6x50 team also won by a good few me­tres.

well ahead of Berkley Mid­dle School which was neck and neck with them most of the day.

Mata­mata In­ter­me­di­ate teacher and swim coach Karen Ray­mond said the swim­mers had a fan­tas­tic day.

‘‘I was ex­tremely proud to be in charge of such a great bunch of stu­dents. They were great com­peti­tors and very sup­port­ive of each other.‘‘

Many of the 21 Mata­mata swim­mers made it into fi­nals of races and gained a plac­ing.
