Swimmers top at Cambridge
Matamata Intermediate swimmers headed to Cambridge with togs and goggles in hand to compete at the Waikato InterIntermediate Swimming Championships on February 28.
Overall the team of 21 walked away with first place after a smashing relay race by both the girls’ and boys’ teams.
The boys’ 6x50m relay won with a lead of 25-30 metres and the girls’ 6x50 team also won by a good few metres.
The relay put
well ahead of Berkley Middle School which was neck and neck with them most of the day.
Matamata Intermediate teacher and swim coach Karen Raymond said the swimmers had a fantastic day.
‘‘I was extremely proud to be in charge of such a great bunch of students. They were great competitors and very supportive of each other.‘‘
Many of the 21 Matamata swimmers made it into finals of races and gained a placing.
